  • Account data — name, email address, password, profile avatar, and timezone.
  • Pet & health data — pet profiles, medications, dose logs, weight records, appointments, care notes, veterinary providers, emergency contacts, and uploaded files or records.
  • Sitter data — sitting periods, access grants you create, and messages exchanged in sitter chat threads.
  • Technical data — Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token used to deliver push notifications.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the PetRelay service.
  • Send medication reminders, appointment alerts, and other notifications you have configured.
  • Enable sitter features including shared pet access and chat.
  • Process subscription payments through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Analyse aggregate, de-identified usage data to improve the service.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. Push Notifications

PetRelay uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), a service provided by Google, to deliver push notifications to your device. We store your FCM device token solely for the purpose of sending notifications. Notification categories include medication reminders, appointment alerts, sitter activity updates, and account-related messages.

You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings. Disabling notifications does not affect other functionality of the app.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Sitters you invite — pet sitters you explicitly grant access to can view the pet profiles and data you choose to share during an active sitting period.
  • Service providers — we use third-party sub-processors for hosting infrastructure, Firebase / Google (push notifications), email delivery, and App Store / Play Store billing. These providers process data only as necessary to perform their services.
  • Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

5. Third-Party Services

PetRelay integrates with the following third-party services:

  • Firebase (Google) — for push notification delivery. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play Store — for subscription billing and payment processing. Subject to the respective platform's terms.

We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies on our website or in the app.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your data within 30 days. Encrypted backups may retain residual data for up to 90 days before being purged. We may retain certain information longer where required by law or to resolve disputes (legal holds).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

  • TLS encryption for all data in transit.
  • Encryption at rest for stored data.
  • Restricted access controls limited to authorised personnel.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Data portability — request a copy of your data in a portable format by contacting us.
  • Opt out of push notifications via your device settings.

9. Children's Privacy

PetRelay is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the minimum age is 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child below the applicable age, we will delete that information promptly.

10. Cookies and Tracking

The PetRelay mobile app does not use cookies. Our website uses essential session cookies only, which are necessary for the site to function. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify you via push notification or email. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
