Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using PetRelay ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these terms on your behalf.

3. Account Registration and Security

To use PetRelay, you must create an account with accurate and complete information. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
• All activity that occurs under your account.
• Notifying us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

4. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of all content you create or upload to the Service (pet profiles, care notes, records, files, chat messages, etc.). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. Uploaded files are stored securely and are not shared except as described in our Privacy Policy.

5. Sitter Features and Shared Access

PetRelay allows you to invite pet sitters and grant them temporary access to specific pet profiles during defined sitting periods. Sitters can view shared pet data and communicate with you via in-app chat threads. You are solely responsible for deciding who to grant access to and for revoking access when appropriate.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes related to pet care management. You may not:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to violate any applicable law or regulation.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
• Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service without our prior written consent.
• Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

7. Subscriptions, Billing, and Auto-Renewal

PetRelay offers a freemium model. Certain features require a paid subscription, available on monthly or annual billing cycles.

• Payment processing — all subscription purchases are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not directly collect or store your payment information.
• Auto-renewal — subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
• Cancellation — you can cancel your subscription at any time through your App Store or Play Store account settings. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
• Free trials — if you start a free trial, it will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand.
• Price changes — we may change subscription pricing with advance notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

8. Refunds

All purchases are final except as required by applicable law or the refund policies of Apple or Google. To request a refund, please contact Apple or Google directly through their respective support channels.

9. Termination and Suspension

• By you — you may delete your account at any time from within the app. Account deletion is subject to the data retention terms in our Privacy Policy.
• By us — we may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or use the Service in a manner that could harm other users or the platform.
• Effect of termination — upon termination for cause, no refund will be provided for any unused portion of a subscription.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Specifically:

• PetRelay is a scheduling and record-keeping tool. It does not provide veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
• We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access to the Service.
• We are not responsible for the accuracy or completeness of data you or other users enter into the Service.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PetRelay and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim or (b) $50 USD.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PetRelay and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Before filing any formal proceedings, both parties agree to attempt to resolve disputes informally by contacting [email protected].

14. General Provisions

• Severability — if any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
• Entire agreement — these terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and PetRelay.
• Changes — we may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify you via push notification or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
